Located in Olivebridge, New York on 374-acres of Catskill forests, streams and farmland, Ashokan Center is the home for the New York Dance For All People. Ashokan is a special blend of geologic, natural and human history. Their mission is to teach, inspire and build community by teaching children and young adults through shared experiences in nature, history, and the arts.
The reason we love Ashokan and the dedicated staff is that their mission is in alignment with ours, the care and preservation of Mother earth and all her multi-verse relations. The Ashokan Center resides along the banks of Esopus Creek which drains the Ashokan Reservoir, the source of nearly 40% of New York City’s drinking water. Because of this unique connection, their curriculum is linked by water. Through watershed studies, water quality science programs, and research initiatives, as well as outdoor adventure programs, natural history programs, and writing programs, Ashokan’s educational experiences are grounded in current land and water use issues affecting the region — and the globe.
