NCPC: Helping Each Other Build Connections

NCPC Vice-President Joy Loupe, aka radiant green muffin, writes:  

heya, my sisterbrothers….

here we are, at the time between samhain and thanksgiving, which for many cultures is the start of the new year. this is a time of harvest, of preserving, and of celebrating abundance.

the feast of the harvest, celebrated in nearly all culture’s histories if not currently, is the feast of all the foods that cannot be preserved to last the winter.

now is the time for reflection, for looking back at the year gone, seeing what we have grown in our garden of self. now is also the time of discernment, deciding what is best to be kept and preserved.

it was this time, the fall, when house repairs were made, when structures were created, when community came together to help each other survive.

part of that survival now is helping each other build connections rather than walls of separation.  in this time and in this place, with what is going on in the world, we strive towards staying connected. the world right now is going through a period where there is a wave of divisiveness, of ‘othering’, and it is spreading everywhere.

one of the greatest gifts of the dance is that it brings us together. wovoka’s original vision was to create harmony between the races and people of humanity, and that work is needed today a thousandfold. we do this work every time we dance, and beyond that, when we walk in the world modeling open-hearted connection, respect, and trust in spirit.

now is the time where we ask you, dear dancer, to help us in our work. here at ncpc, we have many opportunities throughout the year to help preserve the culture that the dance for all people comes from, the great basin tribes. from buying heating oil and firewood for elders on the ft hall reservation, holding our annual coat drive, to supporting different indigenous projects and events, to helping out the elders of our dance community, we strive to do this work in a good way. we also provide each dance with seed money for the year, making sure we can still gather together around the country, fostering deeper community with each other. all our projects.

witches define abundance as enough and some to share. now is the time of sharing. please consider donating to ncpc, to support the dances and the work we do.
