Howard Doore NAA-TOO-CII-PIST-TO (Holy Owl) was a very special brother/friend of mine, a friendship that extended over 4 decades of time.
He was a member of the Blackfeet Tribe of Montana. He was a Ceremonial Leader, Keeper of Traditions and songs, stories and a Respected Public Servant both in his homeland of Browning, Montana and also in Fort Hall, Idaho, his home among the Shoshone people.
Through him I was introduced to the Blackfeet Traditions and Ceremony. And I was inducted into the membership of the Thunder Pipe Ceremony. Howard was also inducted into the Slick Foot Society and the Original Crazy Dog society and participated in the Horn Society in Canada.
He was a supporter of the Dance For All People and served as a adviser to the Naraya Cultural Preservation Council (NCPC) for many years.
The entire Blackfoot Tribe declared a day of mourning when he passed on January 2, 2026. As the saying goes… When an Elder passes, an entire library of knowledge burns down. And in Howard’s life that is very true…
