The NCPC has created a new Scholarship Fund to create more equitable access to the Dance For All People Ceremony

Overview:

The NCPC has created a new scholarship fund for Dancers who identify as BIPOC and/or Trans* . This scholarship is created with an intention to support more equitable access to our ceremony, the Dance for All People. It represents a conscious effort to acknowledge, confront, and begin to repair the historical and ongoing harms caused by colonization, genocide, slavery, land theft, and other forms of systematic oppression in the United States. NCPC acknowledges that these realities of injustice and marginalization have created and sustained inequitable access to resources and financial supports. The scholarship hopes to act as a step toward equity and inclusion, aiming to reduce some of the financial barriers for BIPOC and Trans* Dancers to engage with the medicine of this ceremony and community.

This scholarship provides BIPOC & Trans* Dancers with $325 in financial support for Dance registration fees.

NCPC wants to recognize that we are creating a new model of support for our community so are open to any and all feedback. Our intention is to provide transparency and adaptability throughout this process.

Eligibility Criteria:

Open to any Dancer who identifies as BIPOC and/or Trans* .

How to Apply:

Dancers will make a request directly to the identified Dance to share the need for support. The Dance will keep a list of Dancers who have made this request. Once all requests have come to the Dance, the list will be provided to the NCPC Board for review. Upon review, the NCPC Treasurer will disburse a single payment to the Dance to cover all approved requests.

Scholarship details:

This registration scholarship is available for a BIPOC and/or Trans* Dancer for up to two Dances per year. $325 will be provided to cover a portion, or all depending on prior agreement with the Dance, of the Dancer’s registration fee (max = $650 per person per year).

1 NCPC: Naraya Cultural Preservation Council
2 Registration: Money that goes directly to the Dance to cover the operating costs on the land. Does not include individual travel.
3 BIPOC: Black, Indigenous, People of Color
4 Trans*: Transgender, Two-Spirit, Nonbinary, Gender fluid, Genderqueer, Intersex, Gender nonconforming.
These terms/identifiers continue to evolve, and we intend to honor this evolution and update the terms listed here as best as we can.
5 Dancer: Those who attend a Dance For All People/Naraya on the outer circle. Does not include Medicine Workers’ and/or invited/honored guests.
